About The Island

NUSA PENIDA ISLAND

You looked us up on our website so now you know that there is a place called Nusa Penida. That’s just the start of it, let’s tell you a bit more about our little paradise island.

We are situated south east of Bali, about a forty minute fast boat ride from Sanur. Our island covers an area of just over 200 km square, the highest point being Puncak Mundi in the centre which stands a commanding 524 metres above sea level. Our island is pretty dry and we only get rainfall in the “wet season” spanning December to April. The best time to visit us is between June and September when temperatures are cooler in the tropics and the underwater visibility is even better.

We are part of the Coral Triangle, a marine protected area that was established in 2010. The area spans numerous countries and is home to over 576 species of reef fish and 298 species of coral. If that fails to impress you then you need to come and see our other big fish! In the winter months when the water is cooler Mola Mola (sun fish) can be sighted as they come up from the deep to get cleaned. Year round we are lucky enough to have giant manta’s gliding magestically around cleaning stations.

Our southern limestone cliffs are a view to behold with panoramic views extending to the horizon. Both west and eastern points of the island are a photographers paradise capturing delightful sunrises and sunsets. Our people are friendly, peaceful and always armed with a smile. Our culture and religion is strong and very much part of who we are.

With so much to show and tell you, we really need to take you on tour so that you can experience it for yourself.
